Peavey SRC Mixer Channel Repair

The Peavey SRC-2400 and SRC-1600 mixing consoles are one of my favorite boards. I like the long sliders, the assignment buttons, and the wealth of outputs available to do different tasks. I was very upset when some of my individual channels stopped working. I pulled the board apart, identified the bad part, and took it to the music store to get a replacement. The music store didn't give me the same chip!!!

The individual channels on the Peavey SRC series boards are actually paired with the channel next to them. In other words, when you take out channel 1, you must also take out channel 2. The 2 channels share a common op-amp chip. When channel 1 fails, channel 2 will usually fail also. The original chip supplied by Peavey is a TL074CN. The replacement chips given to me by the music store were TL084CN. I researched this on the internet, and found they are exact replacements. Once you decide it is time to replace a chip in your board, you might think about replacing all of them at the same time. I have a 16-channel board that I just replaced a few because the music store charged $6 per chip. It is such a pain to take the board out of the rack and open it up, that I just decided to replace all of them at once when I had to open up my 24-channel board.
